SRINAGAR: The police have registered a case and ordered a departmental inquiry into the death of 22-year-old Kangan resident Gowhar Rather. Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Range, SP Pani told Kashmir Reader that the departmental inquiry will be headed by DIG Central Kashmir.
“The inquiry will look into three things: one, the sequence of events that led to the incident; two, who is guilty; and three, whether there was any misconduct on the part of the police,” Pani said.
On Monday, when Gowhar was severely injured, the police said in a press release that Gowhar fell at the edge of a drain while he was being chased by police during a protest demonstration. The medical superintendent of SKIMS Soura, where Gowhar was admitted on Monday evening, told Kashmir Reader that Gowhar had a firearm injury in his head.
The Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal also ordered a magisterial probe into the death on Tuesday.
“After receiving all the three reports, we will carry out further action,” Pani told Kashmir Reader.
