Governor seeks compliance on 2008 agreement with Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti

JAMMU: Governor N N Vohra Wednesday directed Divisional Commissioner and IGP to expedite the processes required for fulfilling “the various elements of the agreement” reached between the state and Shri Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti in August 2008 to end the shrine land row in Jammu.
He also sought a compliance report on the matter by April 24. Vohra’s orders came during a meeting with Sangarsh Samiti Wednesday, which was attended by Umang Narula, Principal Secretary to Governor; Hemant Kumar Sharma, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, and S D Singh, IGP Jammu.
Vohra reviewed the to-date implementation status of various items of the 2008 agreement. The matters reviewed involved the status of withdrawal of criminal cases registered against those involved in the agitation; payment of ex-gratia to the next of the kin of the deceased; creation of corpus of Rs. 1 crore for creating job opportunities in the private sector for one member of the bereaved families and those who had been disabled in the course of the agitation.
