Srinagar: Police on Thursday filed an FIR against two Facebook pages for spreading rumours regarding the death of a student in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

SSP Handwara Ghulam Jeelani Wani told a local news agency that a case under FIR number 18/2018 u/s 505 IT Act was filed in connection with the rumors on social media.

The officer said that two pages on Facebook were found involved in spreading the rumors about the student’s death. He said that the strict action will be taken against those running the pages.

The officer also clarified that no student was injured or killed in Handwara.

Earlier, students of Degree College Handwara and Kupwara staged protests against Shopian killing. (GNS)
