Srinagar: 10 protesters sustained injuries, most of them by pellets after violent protests erupted in Shirmal area of south Kashmir’s Shopian on Thursday. A policeman was also injured in the clashes who was treated at district hospital Shopian.
The clashes erupted after protesters started raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans and pelted stones on forces deployed in the area.
Witnesses told Kashmir Reader that government forces resorted to tear smoke shelling and pellet firing injuring at least ten protesters. However, only three injured reached to hospital, hospital sources said adding that others were treated locally to avoid police “wrath”.
The clashes were going on in the area when reports last came in.
Pertinently, 12 militants and four civilians were killed in force’s action in Shopian district Sunday last.
The whole valley observed shutdown against the said killings however the south Kashmir district is still observing strike.
