Clashes erupt in Shopian on ‘challo’ day

Srinagar: Clashes between protesters and government forces erupted in Shopian Wednesday when resistance leaders had called for a “Challo” to south Kashmir town to exhibit solidarity with the people.
13 militants and 04 civilians were killed in force’s actions in south Kashmir on Sunday last.
Local sources said that scores of protesters hit the streets and pelted rocks on already heavily deployed forces at Mimender, Bonenazar and Hospital road of the town.
The forces retaliated with tear smoke shells creating panic in the whole town. The clashes were going on when reports last came in.
Authorities had deployed extra personnel in and around the town to thwart any attempt of protest march.
