Kachdora (Shopian): The double-storey house of Abdul Rehman Lone was among the two houses blasted apart by government forces during the 15-hour gunfight at Kachdoora village in which five militants and three army soldiers were killed. One of Lone’s sons said that the 13-member family was trapped for the entire night in the house while the exchange of gunfire was going on. “We are a joint family comprising 13 members, including children. We were thinking of nothing but the safety of our children,” he said.
Another family member said that they were asked to come out in the morning. “We lost everything that we had earned in our life. Our condition has become such that we have nowhere to go.”
He said that the family has lost property worth Rs 1.5 crore, including the concrete house that cost Rs 40 lakh to build.
A lady from the family said that despite losing everything, she retained faith in Allah.” I am thankful to Allah that we are alive. Allah has chosen this fate for us and he will save us again, Inshallah,” she said.
One more house of a neighbour was blasted apart during the gunfight. Several other houses nearby suffered minor damage.
