SRINAGAR: Senior Congress leader and former minister in the Government of India (GoI) Saifuddin Soz on Monday said the killings and bloodletting at Shopian has left the Kashmir Valley heartbroken and mauled, and constitutes a warning to the GoI that killings can’t go unabated like this.
“I strongly urge the Indian civil society to compel the central government to declare a ceasefire and initiate a decisive dialogue process in Kashmir,” Soz said in a statement issued here.
He said an effective instrument for this process happens to be the Hurriyat Conference leadership.
The Congress leader added, “An authority on solution to the conflicts in the world, Johan Galtung recently spoke to me from his home, the Port City, Alicante, Spain and explained that the dialogue was the only mechanism to find solution to the Kashmir dispute.
“He was mercifully responding to my query as to what should be done to save Kashmir from bloodletting which had continued here through the draconian law like AFSPA.”
Galtung emphasised that no solution will work except a “public dialogue”, Soz said. “He (Galtng) explained emphatically that the unrest in the minds of Kashmiri youth shall have to be addressed before the situation gets out of control.”
Soz said the concerned citizens of India including a significant section of the Army Generals have since advised that Government of India must show courage to reach the minds of Kashmiri youth and address the unrest there.
