Stop genocide in Kashmir: Bar to UN, int’l community

SRINAGAR: J&K High Court Bar Association Srinagar has expressed grave concern over the killing of more than a dozen Kashmiris by government forces in Anantnag and Shopian areas of south Kashmir, and injuring of more than 50 others by use of bullets and pellets, terming it gruesome and barbaric.
Bar in a statement has requested the peace loving members of the international community to take serious notice of the happenings in Kashmir and bring the “pre-planned, predetermined and systemic genocide” of Kashmiri people, which is going on for the last 70 years, to an immediate end.
The Bar Association also requested the United Nations and the members of the Security Council including the International Criminal Court, OIC and other human rights organisations of the world, to take cognisance of the matter, besides getting those responsible for the killing of innocent Kashmiris, prosecuted.
The Association appealed them to get the resolutions of UN Security Council on Kashmir implemented without any further loss of time, saying the non-implementation of those resolutions is a “sad-reflection on the very functioning” of the United Nations and the Security Council.
“At a time when the people of the world including the people of the subcontinent are yearning for peace and there is a growing desire amongst all, to respect and regard the human rights of the people and concede them the right of self-determination, killing of innocents in Kashmir relentlessly and with no remorse or any kind of fear of reprisal, is highly reprehensible, warranting an immediate intervention from all those who believe in human dignity and the fundamental freedoms of the people of Kashmir,” Bar said.
Expressing solidarity with the families of those killed at Dialgam and Shopian, the Bar Association has requested its members to abstain from court work on Monday (today) to register protest against the “innocent killings and the reign of terror let loose by the occupational forces in the State of J&K”.
The Bar Association also expressed solidarity with the people of Palestine, who have also been subjugated, tortured and humiliated by the Israeli brutal forces. “During the past few days, about two dozen of them have been butchered and hundreds have been injured by use of force, only because they wanted the world attention towards their apathy and the settlement of the issue of Palestine in accordance with the wishes of the people,” Bar said.
The Association while supporting the cause of the people of Palestine has requested the international community to play role in stopping their genocide and the bloodbath going on in Palestine for the last about a century now.
