SRINAGAR: A concluding ceremony of institutional plantation drive under ‘Greening Kulgam’ project was held in the premises of district hospital inaugurated by District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kulgam Sajad Hussain Ganie. The three week long institutional plantation drive which started from Degree College Kulgam on Naouroz concluded on Saturday.
The DDC was apprised by the forest department that almost 20 thousand different plants mostly conifers, Chinars and ornamental were planted by different departments at identified institutions including colleges, schools, hospitals, government offices across the district during the three-week long drive.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said that Kulgam has a vast potential to become a green district and initiatives like Green Kulgam will help in beautification and pollution control of these institutions.
DDC urged people especially the government employees and students to actively take part in the plantation drive by planting one sapling per person at their own level. He said that plantation drives should not be mere administrative initiatives restricted to precincts of offices and colleges but an ongoing exercise performed by every individual throughout their lives.
The DDC felt satisfied over the institutional plantation drive stared by forest and floriculture department jointly.
The department of forest has provided 3000 plants to health and 5000 plants to education department for the said purpose.
Earlier, the DDC also visited Divisional Forest nursery Kulgam where he took stock of the upcoming forest nursery in which a variety of around 80000 plants are being nurtured.
The DDC was accompanied by Divisional Forest Officer, Medical Superintendent DH Kulgam, Dy CMO, Floriculture Officer, Range Forest Officer and other officials of concern departments.
