Clashes erupt in Shopian near slain Zubair’s grave

Srinagar: Police on Monday resorted to tear smoke shelling near the grave of slain militant, Zubair Turray in Shopian who was killed in a gun battle in Sugan, Draged village of the south Kashmir district on Sunday.
Zubair was laid to rest last evening not far away from his residence in Shopian.
Scores of people assembled at Zubair’s grave and they were busy in offering special prayers when policemen arrived at the scene and started firing tear smoke canisters to disperse the people, witnesses said.
They said this infuriated people especially youth who retaliated with pelting rocks on police personnel triggering clashes.
Zubair was among 13 militants who lost their lives yesterday in different gunbattles. Zubair, 25 had joined militant ranks in May last year after escaping police custody.
He was earlier slapped with repeated PSA’s and despite the court quashed his detention and directed his release, Zubair was not released.
