Shopian gunfights: Police identifies slain militants; all locals

The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday afternoon said that all the militants killed in Shopian gunfights are locals.
Addressing a joint press conference at Awantipora the top cop of JK Police, Dr SP Vaid said that the bodies of all the militants have been identified by their families. The slain have been identified as Zubair Turray of Shopian; Ishfaq Malik of Pinjura; Rayees Thoker of Padderpora; Yawar Itoo of Safnagri; Nazim Nazir Dar of Nagbal; Adil Thoker of Hamhona and Ubaid Shafi Malla of Trenz.
He further said that the gunfights at two places have ended while it is still going on at one place in Shopian.” Encounters at two places have concluded and is undergoing at third place,” the DGP said.
The DGP said that during the operations two army men have been killed while several personnel of JK Police, CRPF and Army have suffered injuries.
On the civilians killings, the DGP said that two civilians have been killed near the encounter sites in Dragad and Kachdoora.
Besides, the DGP said 25 civilians have received pellet injuries and six have suffered bullet injuries.
On the occassion, Lt General Anil Kumar Bhat, the Srinagar based Corp Commander, said the slain included two militants who were involved in the killing of Umar Fayaz, an army lieutenant, whose issue Delhi raised in the UN General Assembly in the last session. “We were looking for them for a long time,” General Bhat said. “We are happy that we avenged his death.”
