SRINAGAR: In view of the 109th passing away anniversary of the founder of the Anjuman-e-Nusrat-ul-Islam and Kashmir’s prominent scholar Mirwaiz Alama Rasool Shah, several programmes were held across the Valley to pay tributes to him.
An official statement issued here said the main function was held at Islamia Oriental College Srinagar where a Qur’an Khawani majlis was organised. Similar functions were held at different educational institutions run by the Anjuman at Anantnag, Bijbehara, Bota Kadal, Safa Kadal and Rajouri Kadal in which faculty and students participated.
At Islamia Higher Secondary School Rajouri Kadal, the speakers including Anjuman Secretary Muhammad Ibrahim Shah, Principal Dr G.M. Khan and others while paying glowing tributes to late Mirwaiz Rasool Shah said, “He (Mirwaiz Rasool Shah) laid the foundation of the Anjuman in 1899 at a time when Kashmiris were suffering under autocratic rule, and by doing so, the late Mirwaiz helped the people come out of the spell of ignorance and poverty they were living in. He, later on, took the chain of educational institution to all nook and corners of Kashmir Valley.”
At historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq while recalling the contribution of Mirwaiz Rasool Shah led a special prayer session.
