DSEK takes serious note of corporal punishment to students

Teachers directed to be friendly with students

SRINAGAR: Taking strong notice of some incidents of beating of students, Director School Education Kashmir Dr GN Itoo has directed all teaching fraternity to “maintain a friendly relationship with the students and provide them a cordial environment”.
DSEK has received some reports about the beating of students with stick at some institutions “which has a drastic negative psychological and physical impact on the students”, an official statement read.
Senior officers of the department have taken serious note of the incidents and in this regard Director School Education Kashmir Dr GN Itoo issued a circular according to which teachers have been given strict instructions “not to resort to corporal punishment to the students under any circumstances”.
It is mentioned in the circular that the teachers have been given instructions from time to time in this regard.
“Today it is once again enjoined upon all the concerned that if any such incident comes to the notice of the directorate, stern action shall be taken against such elements,” it read.
Director school education has requested all the concerned to bring into the notice of the directorate if any such incident occurred anywhere “so that students can be saved from the negative psychological effects”, it added.
