BUDGAM: Residents of Beerwah on Friday held a protest to press for the demand of granting hill district status to the town.
The people of the area assembled outside the main Jamia Masjid Beerwah soon after the culmination of Friday prayers and staged a massive protest.
Holding placards which read “we demand hill district”, the protestors chanted slogans in favour of district demand and against the official apathy towards the town.
“If there could be an ADC stationed outside a District Headquarter in Jammu, a similar arrangement would not be out of place in Beerwah and the Government should seriously consider the demand of creating an ADC Office in Beerwah,” the speakers urged in their speeches.
“Establishing hill district is one of our old demands and depriving us of this would be an injustice to the people of the area,” they said.
Meanwhile, all the shops remained shut and traffic movement stopped till the demonstration ended peacefully.
