Baramulla: At least fifteen sheep were killed and over a dozen fell ill after officials of sheep husbandry department administrated overdose of a medicine to a flock of sheep in Langate area of Handwara on Friday.
Sources said that a farmer Shabir Ahmad War of Haril Langate, approached to nearby sheep husbandry office for some medicine for his sheep. On Friday two employees and a doctor reached the home of a farmer and gave medicines to the sheep.
Within few minutes fifteen sheep died and about one dozen fell ill, locals said and added that later a team of concerned department reached the spot and took samples for examination.
When contacted district sheep husbandry officer district Kupwara Dr Mohammad Sideeq Khatana, he confirmed that a flock of sheep died due to an overdose of medicine.
“I took serious action against a doctor and two other employees; they will pay compensation to the sheep owner,” he said.
“It was not an injection, the sheep died due to an overdose of medicine, which farmer had bought from the market, but I will never compromise with such cases, and a doctor and two employees will pay to a farmer now,” Dr Khatana added.
