Madrassa teacher shot at in Kulgam
Bijbehara: A special police officer (SPO) was shot dead and his wife was grievously injured when suspected militants fired indiscriminately at the couple inside their home in Kathsoo village of Bijbehara, here in Anantnag district, on Thursday evening.
In Kulgam district of the region, a madrassa teacher was shot at and injured by unidentified gunmen.
The SPO killed in Bijbehara has been identified as Mushataq Ahmad Sheikh, son of Sanaullah Sheikh.
Sheikh, as per sources, was currently posted at the SOG (special operations group) camp in Sangam.
A senior police official from Bijbehara told Kashmir Reader that militants barged into the house of Sheikh at about 8:15pm.
“They fired indiscriminately and injured both husband and wife,” the official said.
Following the firing, as the gunmen escaped, locals rushed to the rescue and took the injured couple to Bijbehara Sub-District Hospital.
While Sheikh was declared brought dead, his wife, Fehmeeda, was straightaway rushed to Srinagar for specialised treatment.
“She was given first-aid in the ambulance while she was rushed to Srinagar,” a doctor at the hospital said, adding that she was grievously injured.
Following the shootout, a contingent of government forces reached Kathsoo village and searches were carried out to try and nab the attackers.
In Kulgam, madrassa teacher Sayar Ahmad Wani, son of Manzoor Ahmad Wani, was shot at by unidentified gunmen while he was on way home from a local masjid, in Chaancer village.
