Army’s summer camp in forest area set ablaze
SHOPIAN: Suspected militants on Thursday night attacked an army patrolling party in Ahgam area of Shopian district. Police sources told Kashmir Reader that a patrolling party of 44 RR came under fire near Ahgam village at around 7:40 in the evening. They said that the army retaliated to the gunfire and a brief exchange of gunfire ensued. There were no reported injuries on either side and the attackers escaped.
Police said that a joint team of forces comprising army, special operation group of police (SOG) and central reserve police force (CRPF) had cordoned off the area and searches were being carried out to nab the attackers.
Local sources said that at about 9pm, several gun shots were again heard in the area.
Senior Superintendent of Police Shopian, AS Dinkar, told Kashmir Reader, “We are in contact with army officers. There are no reports of any casualty yet.” Clashes erupted in the area when a search and cordon operation began in the area. Two persons were reported to have sustained injuries in the clashes.
Medical superintendent Sub district hospital Shopian, Dr Shafat told Kashmir Reader that one person with bullet injury was brought to hospital who was later referred to Srinagar after initial treatments.
He said that injured person had recieved bullet injury on his thigh.
Meanwhile, huts of a seasonal army camp were set ablaze by unknown persons in Dobijan forests in Shopian district. Police sources said that tire tenders were rushed to the spot to extinguish the fire.
The police sources said that during winters the army stays in camps situated in lower areas and goes up to Dobijan in the summers. Currently there was no one staying in the huts at the Dobijan camp.
