Srinagar: The University of Kashmir (KU) has sought technical expertise from Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) for safety audit of buildings in the campus.
PRO KU Faheem Aslam told Kashmir Reader that the university has sent a request to the F&ES after a fire safety audit committee formed by the varsity last month sought technical expertise.
A month after the University of Kashmir had ordered for fire safety audit of all buildings in the campus – to be submitted in 15 days – it has also extended the deadline for the committee on its request.
The fire safety audit committee, headed by Professor Mohammad Sultan Bhat told Kashmir Reader that it had sought more time and technical expertise for the audit. “It is a tedious job to do fire safety audit of the whole campus,” Prof Bhat said. “We have requested the authorities to extend the date. It will take us more weeks to draft the report, for this we need technical person from Fire and Emergency department and other concerned departments.”
The audit was ordered of Feb 23, a day after a portion of Zabarwan Guest House in the varsity was damaged in a fire.
Aslam told Kashmir Reader that the time period sought by the committee headed by Prof Bhat has been granted, and the request for technical expertise has been forwarded.
“The committee need more than one and a half month for this audit and the authorities have approved that request,” Aslam said.
For technical expertise, he said, they are waiting for the response of F&ES.
