Arizal Gunfight: Police search home of family accused of sheltering militant

BUDGAM: Police conducted searches in house of Maqsood Ahmad Khan in Check Marg Arizal where a militant was killed in a brief encounter last week.
A police spokesman said that search warrants were obtained from the court, as part of investigation of case registered at PS Beerwah and “assistance of civil independent witnesses was taken during search and proper legal procedure was also followed”.
“Accordingly the house of Maqsood Ahmad Khan son of Mohammad Maqbool Khan of check Marg Arizal Beerwah was searched,” he said.
Maqsood, a cab driver, has been arrested and accused by police of harbouring militant, a charge vehemently denied by the family.
According to police the militant was taking shelter in the family home, and was killed in a brief encounter in the lawn on March 24.
The family has however has contested their claims and said that the allegations are baseless and concocted.
The family has also accused government forces of stealing gold jewellery, three mobile phones and Rs 14000 cash.
However, police officials refuted the allegations and maintained that Maqsood was involved in harbouring militants.
“Had forces any intention of stealing of money they would not have even shown 31570 rupees that has been recovered from his possession,” police said.
He also said that besides arms and ammunition, three mobile phones have also been recovered from his possession.
