Youth arrested for posting man’s photo with fake info of joining militants

Ganderbal: A resident of Tulmulla in Ganderbal district has been detained by police for allegedly posting a photograph on social media with the caption that a boy from Anantnag district has joined militant ranks.
A police statement said a photograph of a shopkeeper from Ganderbal was circulated on social media platforms with the intent to cause fear and alarm to the public describing him as a new militant recruit. “On verification, it turned out to be a mischief”.
The statement said that police on verification found the photograph to be of a shopkeeper from Beehama Ganderbal, whose family was in stress after the circulation of fake news.
A police officer said during the investigation it was found that a youth Munawar Ahmad Ganie, resident of Tulmulla Ganderbal, had first circulated the fake picture.
“He has been arrested and booked under various section of law,” he said.
