Anantnag: At least four youths were injured, three of them with pellets, after government forces fired pellets and tear smoke shells to disperse people protesting against a cordon and search operation (CASO), here in Palpora area of Pulwama district on Wednesday.
The cordon was laid on Wednesday evening following information of presence of militants in the area, police said.
“As soon as the CASO was launched, dozens of youths came out to protest,” a local source told Kashmir Reader.
Local sources said that police used tear smoke shells and pellets to disperse the protesting people. The injured were rushed to District Hospital Pulwama for treatment, they said.
Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Rasheed Parra, told Kashmir Reader, “We received four injured. Three had pellet injuries and one was injured due to a tear smoke shell.”
He said the injured were stable and would be discharged later in the night.
The CASO was meanwhile called off, as no contact with militants could be established.
