Srinagar: A week-long sanitation drive organised by SMC culminated here at Government Girls Higher secondary School Nawakadal on Tuesday.
Joint Commissioner Administration SMC Syed Abul Qasim presided over the function organized by School.
The school throughout the week-long drive has organised debates on IEC, hazardous effects of polythene, painting/essay competitions and other environment-related topics.
Joint Commissioner distributed cash prizes and awards to the meritorious students.
While interacting with the students, Qasim laid emphasised on taking up more such initiatives which create awareness about IEC activities and requested students to be part of Swachh Bharat Mission.
He also said that students can play a greater role in spreading awareness about the ban on polythene as well.
These students have to act as change agents in order to safeguard the environment and the future generations as well, he said.
At least fifteen hundred students participated in the event.
Senior municipal officers including Exn Mechanical Engineer Itrat Naseem, chief sanitation officer Mudasir Banday.
Earlier Commissioner SMC Riyaz Ahmed Wani Kick-started the drive in the school.
