Hundreds continue to visit slain militant’s home in Wagoora

Baramulla: A complete shutdown was observed in Wagoora area of Baramulla for the second day on Monday to mourn and protest the killing of local militant Shafat Hussain Wani. All shops and business establishments in Wagoora and adjoining areas remained shut, though traffic was plying normally on the roads.
Hundreds of people including women, relatives, friends, and residents of other villages continued to visit the home of the Wani family to express condolences and support. Early in the morning, hundreds of people also went to the nearby graveyard where they offered special prayers (Fateh-Khawani) for Shafat Wani and other militants buried there.
The 30-year-old Shafat Wani was killed by government forces in a brief gunfight in Budgam’s Arizal area on Saturday night. A local woman was also injured by a bullet during the gunfight and was admitted to hospital, where her condition was said to be stable on Sunday.
