Srinagar: Police said on Sunday that government forces killed a militant in central Kashmir’s Budgam district in a brief gunfight. A local lady was also injured.
On specific input regarding presence of militants, Budgam police, 53 RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Khan Mohalla, Arizal in central Kashmir’s Beerwah, police said.
During search, militants tried to flee and came out of house and fired indiscriminately on forces. “In retaliation one unknown militant has been killed, whose identity and affiliation is being ascertained,” a police statement said adding arms and ammunition have been recovered.
Meanwhile in the incident one lady received injury in thigh while the hiding militant was trying to escape while firing indiscriminately, police said.
She has been promptly evacuated to hospital by the police for medical treatment and her condition is now reported to be stable, police claimed.
