SRINAGAR: A three-day national theatre festival begins at Tagore Hall in Srinagar on Saturday. The festival has been organized by North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.
Festival director and noted filmmaker of Valley Mustaaque Ali Ahmad Khan while talking to Kashmir Reader said that he is getting an overwhelming response from the audience which gives him strength to hold such type of festivals in future.
“The main aim of organising such festival is to promote theatre culture in the valley, and I am trying my best to attract youngsters towards this field as theatre is not just confined to acting only but is an intellectual discourse. It is a profession and I urge youngsters to take it interest in it,” he said
Director Radio Kashmir Syed Himayun Qaiser said that, “theatre has been revived a couple of years ago and organizing such events is a continuation of that but it is very unfortunate that they do not get any support other than from Radio Kashmir or Academy of Art and Culture.”
“North Zone Cultural Centre have also promised to send artists from Kashmir to other states to perform and showcase their talent which will be very much beneficial for Kashmiri artists and revival of theatre and film festival in Kashmir,” he further added.
Professor Saubhagya Vardhan, director North Zone Cultural Centre said, “I wholeheartedly want to support Kashmiri artists and this was the reason we came here to perform. Kashmiris are very talented and that is why we want more talent from Kashmir. We will support and send Kashmiri artists outside state so that they can shape their talent.”
