Krenchoo Pampore villagers demand new water supply

PAMPORE: Residents of Krenchoo village of Pampore held a protest demonstration against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department for supplying contaminated water to the locality.
The residents told Kashmir Reader that health problems galore in the village due to the contaminated water supplied to them by PHE authorities.
“Most of the residents suffer from chest diseases and Gastroenteritis,” a resident said adding that they many times approached higher authorities but nothing has been done to solve the problem.
Residents added that officials are aware of the high content of Iron and bad smell of water.
“But they are least concerned to address our pleas,” they said.
Residents demanded that another bore well can be dug in saffron field Kerewa where a land of one Kanal is available.
“It has crystal clean water as other bore wells have been dug in the area and have water has been tested of good quality,” he said, adding that the department only needs execution as most of the equipment from the earlier well can be utilized.
An official of PHE department told Kashmir Reader that they had also formed a committee to test the samples and check whether it can be used for drinking purposes.
“The report clearly shows that the water has a high content of iron and it has a bad smell,” said a PHE official.
Assistant Executive Engineer, PHE subdivision Pampore Fayaz Ahmad told Kashmir Reader that he analyzed the water sample test and forwarded the demands of the locals to the executive engineer.
“I have mentioned the demands, the report and the availability of the land for new borewell,” he said. Executive Engineer PHE division, Awantipora, Ravi Kant told Kashmir Reader that he has directed AEE to form a DPR for the scheme which would be forwarded to the Chief Engineer for the approval.
