SRINAGAR: The horticulture students of SKUAST- K are continuing their protest from last three days at Shalimar campus Srinagar demanding the creation of separate posts for the horticulture university.
The protesting students said that there are zero percent jobs for the horticulture degree holders from last 10 years in the government departments and educational intuitions.
Maintaining that they welcome the creation of Horticulture University, the students said their only demand is that separate posts should be created for the university rather than shifting horticulture department from SKUAST.
Amir Bashir Wani, President of the horticulture Graduates union said, “We strongly oppose the move of shifting staff from SKUAST-K to Horticulture University rather than hiring separate staff for that. We have already suspended our class work from last three days and will continue to boycott classes till the government accepts our demand.”
“The government is planning to set up new horticulture university without any plan to engage existing scholars. The government is playing with the future of students and destroying their future” he added.
The union president also said that State govt has decided to carve out the horticulture university from the already established institute- SKUAST- K.
“They have decided to shift staff. The will not only diminishes the future of horticulture scholars but will only create hundreds of unemployed youth with dark future. We are of opinion that this is a futile exercise,” he said.
The Union President reiterated and strongly endorse the establishment of new horticulture university within the state but said that it should not be at the cost of already existing university and the future of unemployed horticultural scholars.
“The creation of new institution should create new jobs, new research for benefit of horticulturists of state, but it looks other way here,” he said.
