Budgam: The residents of Kenawale, a tribal village in sub-division Tangmarg, saidthat the Power Development Department (PDD) has failed to repair their transformer that had developed some technical snag over a year ago.
“Since then the transformer is yet be repaired. PDD officials did not ever bother to send the transformer for repairs to the workshop,” the locals told Kashmir Reader.
The village has about 30 households, and the entire community is living under the darkness. “We have been pushed to darkness by the officials and the employees of PDD department,” they alleged.
They added: “Ours is the voice of voiceless. No one listen to our long pending pleas”.
They said that all the houses in the village face problems owing to no electricity and their children’s education is suffering. “The 10KV transformer is insufficient, and if repaired, it gets overloaded as there is always every possibility of damage to it due to overloading,” Shabir Ahmad, a local said.
The villagers said that instead of repairing the transformer, the PDD department were issuing themelectricity bills after the end of the month.
When contacted Executive Engineer, PDD, Mohammad Jamal, he said that he would look into the problem of this village. “Usually, we repair transformers within three days so that people don’t face any problem. However they have 10KV transformer and it does not get repaired but it gets replaced,” he said.
When asked why the department did not take any cognizance for last one year, he said, “We have already forwarded a letter to higher officials and recommended 63KV transformer on replacement basis”.
However, locals contested this by saying that it is a work of a month, and now a year has passed by. They also allege that it is a deliberate attempt to neglect this tribal village.
Xen PDD Budgam,Nasrullah Jan, told Kashmir Reader that he has no knowledge regarding this problem. “Let me confirm from the department. I assure that if it is so, it will be repaired soon,” he added.
