PAMPORE: In connection with Arbour Day, students of Skylight Higher Secondary School Pampore, planted various trees including Deodar, Cuprous, Kail and Chinar at different locations of Pampore town and its surrounding villages of Khadermoh and Marval.
Many people joined students in Khadermoh and Marval villages, showing enthusiasm towards the plantation drive. The members of Auqaf Committee, Khadermoh, in particular, with its chairman hailed efforts of the students and their interest in the drive. He also appreciated school teachers and management for making people aware about the importance of planting trees and thereby leaving a ‘great’ legacy for future generations.
While welcoming the drive, Chairman Auqaf Committee, Khadermoh, who also happens to be a retired forest officer, pointed out reasons why environment has degraded in last few decades. He also stressed on the need of planting trees to “preserve and protect environment from further degradation”. He urged students as well as locals to plant trees in abundance wherever possible as “this is the only way to save and conserve the fragile ecology and environment”.
