Srinagar: Police on Thursday said that all the five militants killed in a gunfight with government forces in the Halmatpora forests of Kupwara district are understood to be non locals.
Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, S P Pani while talking to reporters in Kupwara said that all the militants are supposedly related to the Lashkar-e-Toiba militant outfit.
“It was a very difficult operation in view of thick vegetation and open area,” he said.
Earlier IG Pani reached Kupwara to take part in the wreath-laying ceremony of policemen killed in the two-day gunfight.
“On the basis of material recovered from the site of the gunfight, it looks the slain militants were associated with Lashkar-e-Toiba militant outfit,” he said.
Pertinently, two policemen, three army soldiers and five militants are among the dead during a fierce gunfight which started on Tuesday.
