SRINAGAR: All Jammu and Kashmir Horticulture Unemployed Graduates union on Monday held a protest demonstration here demanding that the establishment of new horticulture university should not be at the cost of SKUAST-K.
The protesters holding the banners and placards assembled here in press enclave , some of the placards read, “ Shifting university killing our future”, “ New Horticulture university new recruitment”, “Establish new horticulture university not at the cost of SKUAST-K” and “ Save our future”.
Amir Bashir Wani, president of All Jammu and Kashmir Horticulture Unemployed Graduates union said that the government is planning setting up of new horticulture university without any plan to engage existing scholars.
The government is playing with the future of new students and destroying their future, he said.
“We represent our plight. There are zero percent jobs for the horticulture graduates from last 10 years. From time to time horticulture minister and higher officials have been saying that there is no need of horticulture scholars in the state. What is the fun of producing hundreds of new horticulture scholars, ” he questioned.
According to Wani, the creation of new institution should be meant to create new jobs, new research initiatives which will help horticulturists of state, but it looks other way here.
“State govt has decided to carve out the horticulture university from the already established institute. They have decided to shift staff , which will not only diminishes the future of horticulture scholars but will only create hundrends of unemployed youth with dark future. We are of opinion that this is a futile exercise, we reiterate and strongly endorse the establishment of new horticulture university within the state but not at the cost of already existing university and the future of unemployed horticultural scholars,” Wani said.
“We as the horticulture students of the state strongly oppose the move of shifting staff from SKUAST-K, with no plan to recruit unemployed horticulture scholars. If our demand is not accepted, we will stop going to classes and will burn our degrees,” wani added.
