SRINAGAR: Radio Kashmir Srinagar and J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages on Monday felicitated eminent theatre, radio and TV actor Farooq Sheikh under the series ‘Naamwar’, Jammu Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) said in a statement.
It said a function was organised at the JKAACL headquarters which was attended by noted theatre activists, writers and dignitaries.
Director Radio Kashmir Srinagar Syed Himayoun Qaiser while elaborating the motive behind organising interaction session with Farooq Sheikh said he has acted in number of serials, radio dramas and has been associated with theatre related activities for about half a century. He said Farooq Sheikh has contributed significantly to contemporary theatre and he deserves to be honoured.
Shabeer Mujahid, former Director Doordarshan Srinagar, also complimented Farooq Sheikh for his contribution to the contemporary theatre in the state.
Earlier, presenting his welcome address on behalf of the Academy; Mohammad Ashraf Tak, chief editor, said, “This is 12th Edition of NAAMWAR, which has proved to be a successful series and today we have invited prominent theatre activist Farooq Sheikh to share his experiences.”
A paper covering life and contribution of Farooq Sheikh was also presented on the occasion by Dr. Sohan Lal Koul. Farooq Sheikh was felicitated by presenting a shawl and citation on the occasion.
An interaction session also took place on the occasion and various questions were put by the audience to Farooq Sheikh and he replied all the queries, the statement said.
Vote of thanks was presented by Satesh Vimal and proceedings of the function were conducted by Rasheed Nizami.
The function was attended by Nisar Naseem, Hassan Javaid, Yousuf SHaheen, Meraj Ud in Ahmad, Farhat Sidiqee, Inayat Gul, Gul Javaid, Dr Syed Iftikhar, Saleem Salik, Jameel Ansari and others.
