BARAMULLA: To ensure quality and price control of various food items and to keep vigil on erring traders, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Baramulla, Farooq Ahmad Baba on Saturday conducted market checking at various locations of Baramulla.
He was accompanied by officers from food supply, revenue, metrology and municipal committee Baramulla.
The ADC imposed a fine of Rs 53,900 under various sections of Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 on various traders for violating regulations. The team also destroyed contaminated vegetables and spices.
Meanwhile, an anti-encroachment drive was also launched during which several footpaths were cleared. The team also seized polythene bags from some shopkeepers besides inspecting other necessary commodities.
Speaking on the occasion, the ADC said that such drives would be conducted on routine basis so that quality of commodities was ensured. He also urged traders not to violate the rules besides displaying the rate lists at their respective trade centres. Moreover, the ADC warned the vendors “not to encroach the footpaths” failing which shall render action against the violators.
