South Kashmir parts mourn the killing of two militants, observe shutdown

Srinagar: A complete shutdown is being observed in parts of south Kashmir on second straight day Saturday to mourn the killing of two local militants at the hands of government forces during a gunfight in Balhama area of Srinagar outskirts.
Rasiq Nabi Bhat alias Owais of Nowdal Tral and Shabir Ahmad Dar of Aghanjipora , Awantipora were killed in the gunfight triggered after they tried to snatch weapons from the guards of a BJP leader at Balhama, police said.
The areas of Tral and Awantipora are observing shutdown on the second consecutive day, witnesses said.
The native areas of both the slain militants witnessed massive protests on Friday after and before their last rites.
The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) authorities also postponed all scheduled examinations as “a precautionary measure” following killing of the two militants.
