Shopian: Army soldiers allegedly opened fire in the air after their vehicle came under stone-pelting near Brethipora village in Shopian district on Tuesday. Locals told Kashmir Reader that army soldiers fired several shots in the air and also arrested two boys, whom locals identified as Riyaz Ahmad Bhat and Aijaz Ahmad Wani, both residents of Brethipora. Villagers said that army soldiers fired about seven shots in the air.
The villagers said that two army vehicles were passing thorough the village when they came under stone-pelting by unknown persons. They said that the two arrested boys were not involved in the stone-pelting, which took place between Brethipora and Kralcheck villages.
Senior Superintendent of Police Shopian, AS Dinkar, told Kashmir Reader that the army brought two detained persons to the police station and the police were verifying the incident. “Lawful action will be taken after the investigation,” he said.
