Plantation drive starts in Baramulla

Baramulla: In a significant move to enhance the green cover in Baramulla, a plantation drive was kick-started here in the office complex of Forest department on Tuesday.
Drive was kick-started by conservator of forests north circle IrfanRasoolWani.
Divisional Forest Officer Waseem Farooq Mir, District Information Officer AijazHussain Malik and various other functionaries of forest department were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, IrfanRasoolWani said that the drive was started with the purpose to enhance the green cover in the district. He said that the department has about 6.5 lakh saplings in the nurseries of the district out of which about 2 lakh saplings have been made available for sale. Moreover he reiterated the department’s commitment of planting more and more trees and said that such a practice would have positive effect on our environment.
While urging various institutions to plant trees into their office premises, the conservator highlighted various benefits of plantation on climate and other living creatures. He said that the department has taken various initiatives for the beautification of Baramulla town and stressed for public cooperation in the regard.
