Police arrest 5 drug peddlers in Sopore, Udhampur

Srinagar: Police on Monday said that they arrested three notorious drug peddlers during a naka checking at Sopore and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A police spokesperson said that a vehicle was also seized.
Spokesperson added that acting on a specific information, Sopore police arrested three notorious drug peddlers who were identified as Manzoor Ahmad Sofi son of Bashir Ahmad Sofi, Muneer Ahmad Shah son of Mohammad Munwar Shah residents of Neharpora Sopore and Farhan Hameed Shah son of Abdul Hameed Shah resident of Noorbagh Sopore during a naka checking near Dumna Complex Neharpora.
“These drug peddlers aboard a Santro car bearing registration number JK03-2660. 680 capsules of Spasmoproxyvan and 24 bottles of Codeine Phosphate was recovered from the vehicle,” he added.
A case FIR number 49/2018 under section 8/22 NDPS Act has been registered and the investigation has been taken up.
Meanwhile, police also arrested two persons in Udhampur district for allegedly possessing 43kg of poppy.
Acting on a tip-off, a police party intercepted a Punjab-bound truck in Roundomail area of the district, a police officer said.
Around 43.5kg of poppy, recovered from the vehicle, was seized. Both the accused — Surinder Singh, alias Shinda, and Navpreet Singh — were arrested on the spot, the officer said.
A case has been registered against the duo and further investigation is on, he added.
