‘Not a single project started in five years’

Residents said that all the officials including the deputy commissioner, revenue officials, and engineers were visiting the village daily for a month making the locals believe that government is serious to implement the scheme.
“We were happy for the reason that our village would be made a model in the true sense but we were not aware that status would never change, ” Adil Ahmad Wani, a villager said while adding that they spend thousands of rupees to prepare wazwan and teas for the officials who would visit village in excitement.
Villagers asked the Chief Minister to visit the village again and fulfil her promises. “They erected four boards at four different entry and exit points of the village with ‘Melhora Super model Village’ inscribed on it.”
Locals said that supermodel village has become a joke for people of other villages.

In 2014 majority of houses in our village were damaged. When the village was declared supermodel, authorities promised us the construction of two flood control bunds on the banks of both the rivers but till date, neither bund was constructed nor any political leader or any official came to the village,” he said.

They did not construct anything in the village; I am tired now with attending meetings when they call me. They lied then, they are lying now. Under the promise of model village they (authorities) brought an ambulance here but within a span of a week the ambulance disappeared and we later came to know that the same vehicle has been given to some hospital in Pulwama,” he rued.
Melhora villagers said that they have lost all hopes for the model village, but at least government should provide basic facilities.
“A marriage hall, hospital, higher secondary school, separate water supply scheme, veterinary, hospital, marriage hall, free ambulance till the completion of hospital, bunds on rivers, five new type boats, electricity poles, playground, food store and several many promises but none of them was met by government in past five years, “Shabir Ahmad a local said.
