SRINAGAR: JK High Court Bar Association, Srinagar, on Monday “rubbished” the statement of finance minister Haseeb Drabu on Kashmir as “an act of treachery and betrayal with the tremendous sacrifices given by the people of Kashmir for achieving their right of self-determination”.
Bar in a statement said, “The speech of Haseeb Drabu at annual PHD Chamber Event at New Delhi that ‘Kashmir is not just a political problem but a social issue’ is reckless, illogical, ludicrous and as such should be rejected by one and all and no amount of clarification or asking Drabu to take back the statement is going to assuage the anger of the people of Kashmir.”
“The Bar Association wants to make it clear that Kashmir is an internationally recognised dispute and its solution lies in the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolutions, the latest being the one, bearing no. 1172 dated 6th June 1998 adopted at the 3890TH meeting, guaranteeing the right of self-determination to the people of Kashmir and calling upon the parties to show restraint and settle the core conflict of Kashmir, which has remained undecided for the last 70 years,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, in an emergency general body meeting held here on Monday, the Bar members “expressed deep concern over the killing of three Kashmiris and arresting and detaining of three persons including Farooq Ahmad, a lawyer, practicing at Anantnag from Village Hakoora, Anantnag in blatant violation of law”.
“Indian forces have let loose a reign of terror in Kashmir and every day, one or the other Kashmiri is killed by the ruthless forces and the world is watching the scenario as mute spectators,” the members said.
