Sumbal: The turnout of children for plus polio program immunization on Sunday was disturbing in north Kashmir’s Sonawari belt due to official apathy.
According to locals they were not informed through advertisements or banners which used to be the case earlier in the area.
ISM Nodal officer Bandipora Dr Qazi Ifthikar Hussain told Kashmir Reader that he received numerous calls from the people that there was low turnout of the children. He aid till 11 am, less than two percent children turned up for immunization at government run CHC Hajin and CHC Sumbal respectively.
“I have visited CHC Hajin and Sumbal, there was very poor immunization going on,” Hussain conceded. The locals were angry with the health department for not launching an information campaign before the immunization.
Reports said the dozens of villages especially far off villages were not aware of immunization and remained mostly away from immunization to their children.
Noor Mohammd, an elderly resident said that before plus polio immunizations health officials used to carry bout awareness campaign among the public. “The Anganwadi workers and ASHA workers used to write advertisements on the walls to create awareness but this time they parried it,” at too has disappeared, simply the officials have forgotten that way,” he said.
