Srinagar: Clashes between protesters and forces erupted in several areas of the Srinagar city, PTI reported on Monday.
As per the report clashes erupted at Soura the ancestral area of slain militant Eesa Fazli, Anchar, Old Barzulla areas of the city. Fazli was laid to rest after a large number of people participated in his funeral prayers.
Reports of clashes have also reached from Wailo Kokernag area, the ancestral place of second slain militant Syed Owais, where forces resorted to tear smoke shelling against the stone pelting protesters. Owais was also laid to rest amid sloganeering and a large number of people participated in his funeral prayers.
Authorities had ordered closure of schools and other educational institutions as “a precautionary measure” in Srinagar and south Kashmir.
Mobile internet speeds have also been reduced across the valley.
Police have issued an advisory for the citizens, seeking their cooperation.
“Your police seeks cooperation of citizens for maintaining order and ensuring peace. Today you will find restrictions in some parts of city # Srinagar. While it is a cause of inconvenience, we assure these control orders are temporary. For any assistance pl dial 100 (sic),” the Jammu and Kashmir Police tweeted.
Three militants including Eesa Fazli of Srinagar and Syed Owais Shah of Kokernag were killed in Anantnag district. The identity of the third militant was being ascertained.
