Attack on saffron mission: Agriculture Officials
PAMPORE: Several farmers in Dusso village of Pampore are aghast after some miscreants carved out a road through their saffron fields.
Residents told Kashmir Reader that land mafia active in the area used bulldozers through their fields during the night without their consent.
A road would soar the prices of the adjacent lands paving way for a colony, they said.
Residents said that they heard the sound of bulldozers last night but did not pay attention at first, as they did not did not expect fields to be touched without consent.
“At about 10 pm many villagers assembled and intercepted the bulldozer and identified four people who were involved in the act,” said Gulzar Ahmad Deva, a resident of Krunchoo Pampore whose land was also excavated adding that the land through which road was carved belonged to 14 families.
The farmers said that most of them lost their entire seed (corm) during the excavation and the soil excavated was lifted.
“We demand compensation for the farmers and action against the people involved,” the residents said.
Agriculture Extension officer Pampore Syed Mohammad Rizvi described the incident as an attack on Saffron Mission
“These elements want the Saffron Mission to fail so that they pursue their business of destroying the physiograpy of Pampore, Karewa which is famous for saffron cultivation in the world,” Rizvi said.
Director Agriculture Kashmir, Syed Aijaz Andrabi told Kashmir Reader that he would take action against the perpetrators.
“I warn people around the area that no transformation of saffron land should be attempted or they would face action,” Andrabi said, adding that these elements would be dealt sternly.
He added that he would also lodge an FIR against these persons.
Police said that they have registered a case FIR number 18/2018 against the persons identified and were investigating the case.
