Srinagar: MLA Shopian Adv. Mohammad Yousuf Bhat Friday reiterated his demand for the judicial probe in civilian killings at Pahnoo Shopian Sunday last.
While urging for judicial probe, Bhat said, “since there are dissenting and contradictory versions coming up as to what happened on that fateful day, the matter needs to be thoroughly probed because people have every right to know the truth and equally government is duty bound to book the culprits and give justice to the bereaved families, who have lost their loved ones.”
“Shopian is the peace loving and most sentimental district and the government has to be sensitive while dealing with the people of this area,” Bhat said in a statement adding “the memories of civilian killings at Ganowpora shopian, a month back were still afresh, the recent civilian killings at Pahnoo has hurt the scars of the people, which were not yet healed and has further alienated the people of this volatile district.”
While slamming the army for framing civilians as OGW’s, Bhat said, “It is unfortunate that army frame the civilians as over ground workers (OGW’s) and by doing so they are trying to justify the civilian killings”.
Six persons including five civilians were killed in army action last Sunday at Pahnoo village of Shopian. They include unarmed civilians Suhail Ahmad Wagay son Khalid Ahmad Wagay of Pinjora, Shahid Khan son of Bashir Ahmad Khan of Malik Gund, Shahnawaz Wagay son of Ali Mohammad of Langandora Trenze, and Gowhar Ahmad Mir of Molu Dangerpora.
Two militants Amir Ahmed Malik of Harmain and Ashiq Ahmad of Rakpora, were also killed in the shootout.
