Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Wednesday defied his house detention and came out of his residence breaking the police cordon, but wasn’t allowed to proceed towards Shopian.
Mirwaiz along with his supporters started leading towards south Kashmir’s Shopian as per the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) call but was stopped by the police and arrested, a Hurriyat sources said.
Police also foiled Syed Ali Geelani’s march towards Shopian. The octogenarian pro-freedom leader came out of his residence but found barricades of barbed wire just all around.
Curfew-like restrictions were imposed around Geelani’s residence, a Hurriyat leaders said adding not a single soul was allowed to enter Geelani’s office cum residence at Hyderpora.
Six persons including four civilians were killed in force’s action in Pohnoo village of Shopian on Sunday.
JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik had called for ‘Shopian Chalo’ to express solidarity with the families of the youth who were killed in army firing.
