Shopian killings: Locals demand removal of Puhnoo Army camp

Srinagar: The locals of Pinjura and Puhnoo villages of Shopian district on Tuesday held protests in their area demanding the removal of the Army camp which killed four civilians in a shootout with militants on Sunday evening. A militant was also killed in the shootout.
Scores of locals staged protests and raised anti-army slogans demanding the removal of Puhnoo camp.
The army camp at Puhnoo village according to locals was established in September 2016 amid the uprising.
They said that some protesters also marched towards the Mini Secretariat Shopian where they clashed with government forces.
The forces used tear smoke shells against the stone pelting protesters, witnesses said.
Civilians Suhail Ahmad Wagay son Khalid Ahmad Wagay of Pinjora, Shahid Khan son of Bashir Ahmad Khan of Malik Gund, Shahnawaz Wagay son of Ali Mohammad of Langandora Trenze, and Gowhar Ahmad Mir of Molu Dangerpora were killed in forces action at Puhnoo village on Sunday evening.
A militant identified as Amir Ahmed Malik son of Bashir Ahmed Malik of Harmain was also killed on the spot while as another militant Ashiq Ahmad of Rakpora Shopian was found dead some KMs away from the area.
