JAMMU: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday addressed the 17th Convocation of Jammu University here. She said her government has resolved to create a knowledge society in the state, which would match the requirements of a globalised world.
The chief minister, who is the Pro Chancellor of the university, said her government has recently launched a Knowledge Initiative with the objective of creating an atmosphere in which the talent of young people is honed and they are provided the best opportunities. The Initiative is built on the three pillars of Education, Employability and Empowerment, she said.
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was the chief guest on the occasion while Governor NN Vohra, who is also the Chancellor of the university, also addressed the convocation.
Terming education and learning as vehicles for human betterment, Mehbooba said the pursuit of knowledge requires a continuous process of testing, reassessment, challenge and debate. She said the mind should be open to ideas and new perspectives and even possibilities. This, she said, requires work done with courage, generosity and humility.
The chief minister said she was happy to see many young girls being awarded medals and degrees. She said she wished to see Jammu & Kashmir showing a way for Women-led Development rather than Development for Women. She complimented all the students and scholars who received their degrees.
