Shopian: Shops, hotels and internet cafes in Shopian’s mini-secretariat area, an important hub of business, have no electricity since a month after their service line was disconnected by authorities. The power users have been told they cannot avail the hot line service which is exclusively meant for the mini-secretariat.
Shopkeepers told Kashmir Reader that despite paying bills they have no electricity which forces them to use generators. “We get metered electricity and pay our bills. But suddenly our lines were snapped even as we are located at the doorsteps of the mini secretariat,” Mehraj Ahmad, a shopkeeper said while demanding an electricity transformer for the said area.
Shopkeepers said that they receive heavy bills but no electricity which according to them had affected their business. They said that they end up spending double than required amounts oin electricity because they use generators to run their outlets.
About 20 shops, hotels and shopping complexes and a petrol pump have been rendered without power supply since a month’s time.
Executive engineer power development department Shopian, Gulzar Ahmad Khuchay told Kashmir Reader that on the directions of the authorities they have stopped the hot line power supply because it was not meant for the private consumers. “We will provide the alternative power supply to the affected consumers.
