Srinagar: Hundreds of Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers staged a massive protest in Srinagar to press for their long pending demands.
Assembled under banner of Rehbar-e-Teleem Teachers Forum (RTTF), teachers from across the valley assembled in Press Enclave and raised anti-government slogans to protest the “delay in redress” of their problems.
The ReTs’ demands include regularization, time bound promotion and transfer policy.
“We have around 41000 ReT teachers under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) that have not received any salaries from last few months. They have been left at the mercy of God and their families are suffering a lot due to lack of resources” Chairman of the Forum, Farooq Ahmad Tantray said.
He said that they have no other option than to lock the schools and protest on the streets to highlight their plight.
“All the promises and assurances made by the Education Minister and Finance Minister have proven fake. There is no option left other than to protest against government,” he added.
A group of protestors told Kashmir Reader that they were suffering from depression as they were facing financial problems and insecurity.
“There is nobody ready to lend us any household items that have led to depression and other diseases,” they said.
They said the government has failed to execute a complete transfer policy for ReTs.
“Despite court orders our ReT teaching community is being discriminated and stressed on various aspects,” a teacher said.
The teachers said that they will continue to protest till their genuine demands are met, and added that a similar protest has been held in Jammu.
