Ganderbal: Parents and students on Friday protested against the lack of infrastructure in Hayan Government High School in Kangan Ganderbal.
Raising slogans against the government, parents and students blocked Srinagar-Leh Highway for three hours.
They said most of the students belong to poor and Scheduled tribes families who have no money to send their children to private institutions. “We are neglected by the government, which has failed to construct a good school infrastructure,” a resident said.
Headmaster Qamar din of the school told Kashmir Reader that the till November last year school was operating in nine rooms which included aprivately rented building comprising five rooms and a single storied govt building comprising four rooms but the Private building was dismantled by the building owner.
“To manage the system we are going to shift and club the primary department of the school along with primary teaching staff to a nearby primary school on temporary bases till the new building will come up for the high school,” he said.
Meraj ud din Shah SDM Kangan told Kashmir Reader that the Headmaster of the school had approached my office regarding the issue.
“I will visit the spot to identify the land for the construction of new school building. Issue will be resolved within two days
Later, the residents called off their protest after officials from police and district administration assured them of looking into their demands.
