Srinagar: Nearly 18,000 applicants have applied for 110 Class IV posts in the Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar. They include graduates, postgraduates, and even PhD holders.
The overwhelming response will create a record of sorts because ten days are still left for the last date of application.
According to official sources, more than 5,000 applications were submitted by graduates and 2,000 by postgraduates for the 110 posts in GMC Srinagar.
“There are also some doctorates among the applicants,” they said.
“We were shocked to know that postgraduates and PhD holders have also applied for the Class IV posts,” said an official in the personnel department of GMC Srinagar.
The least qualification for the Class IV posts is Matriculation. The job fetches a monthly salary of about Rs 14,000 after 5 years of probation as per SRO-202.
The total 110 posts include nursing orderlies, office orderlies, ward boys, lab attendants, chowkidars, sweepers and stretcher bearers. Candidates should be in the age group of 18-43 years in general as well as reserved categories.
“The kind of response we have got is overwhelming. This shows the graph of unemployment in Kashmir and the perception about government jobs. We got a good response last year also, in which PhD candidates also applied. But this time the response is huge. I am not sure, however, about the highest qualification (of applicants) this time,” Ghulam Rasool Kumar, GMC Srinagar Administrator, said.
He said the recruitment would be done through a shortlist on the basis of Class 10 and 12 percentage of marks.
“We will have to decide about the weightage of marks in 10th and 12th class. It will be decided by the divisional level committee after the application process ends on March 12,” Kumar said.
